Meet
my pets
I
shall introduce you in 'pecking' order, agewise that is!
Meet
Brolly, our 13 yrs old Umbrella cockatoo. I hand-reared Brolly
since she was a chick. I fed her on low protein Milupa baby food!
Oh, and she just loved digestive biscuits and apples...Her first
flight was on Christmas day 1986....right into the Christmas
tree! Cockatoos are like all parrot type birds, very destructive.
To date she has demolished 3 remotes, 2 joysticks, 3 telephones,
2 sets of Venetian blinds, 2 pairs of spectacles.......Oh dear,
I could go on forever and would bore you to tears. She has her
good points. She is very entertaining with her singing and dancing.
She barks and whistles tunes. Her most endearing trait is that
she is very cuddly and tells you nite-nite, kiss-kiss when she
wants to go to bed. You know if I had my time over again would
I still buy a cockatoo chick?.............Never!.... nevertheless,
I did and we love her very much.
Meet
Maxi, our 11 yrs old Yorkie. The personification of arrogance!
He like nothing better than to boss the other dogs around. We
bought Maxi as a gift for a close relative....he didn't last
a week, but was sent back unceremoniously to us, thanks, but
no thanks, so to speak. Well, we tried to train Maxi in obedience.
He had his own ideas about that! He does what he likes, when
he wants. He is certainly a little character and a little terror.
We love him to bits.
Meet
Sam, our 4yrs old Collie crossbred dog. Sam is a rescue dog from
a local sanctuary. We have had him since he was 4 weeks old,
and we were the second owners! Sam is an escape artist and loves
his freedom. We have built our fence up another 1.5 metres and
he still tries to jump over! He has a wonderful nature, gentle
and loving except when anyone attempts to enter the property,
and I mean anyone, the mailman, delivery man etc. I might add
that we have not had any burglary attempts in the past 4 years...........I
wonder why? (-;
This
is our Cassie, a 4 yrs old Greyhound. I cannot fault her in any
way. Cassie is the most placid and loving pet's we have ever
known. I rescued her literally from the grips of death. I was
at a pet hospital where she had been taken to be 'put to sleep'.
It was fate that I was there that day. Cassie has never raced
on a track but loves to run. She is very fast too. Greyhounds
get a very raw deal in the UK. No-one seems to want them after
they retire from racing. Some unscrupulous owners even dump them
where they are left to fend for themselves. Although this was
not the scenario in Cassie's case. She was almost ferrile when
some Gypsies dumped her and moved on. She was taken in by a family,
but unfortunately one of the children developed an allergy and
Cassie had to go. The poor people couldn't find a home for her
and that is where I came in, at the pet hospital. At this point,
I would like to pay tribute to the Greyhound Rescue Society.
We
have several birds. Cockatiels, lovebirds, finches etc., most
of them we keep outside in a large aviary. I have two cockatiels
whom I hand-reared living indoors. I might add that It was not
my intention to hand rear them, they were booted out of the nest
and I went to the rescue........C'est la vie!
Meg
